Question?

I have noticed that a lot of my fellow bloggers have started doing private blogs. Did I miss something? Is blogging not as safe as I thought it was? How do you go about doing a private blog anyway?

  2. I really didn't think it was a big deal until a friend of mine who's husband works at the bank had some wierd guy come in who knew all about his family and their blog...kinda freaky. Although I think it tends to be a mormon thing....You know how small the world is in the mormon communtiy????!!!! And it is a little scary to think that anyone could get on your blog and be seeing your kids...and see where you live...although I haven't heard anything on the news about this happening! I was going back and forth when Jon said You really can never be too safe with your kids...which is kind of a surprising comment for him! Anyway I am leaving you a novel that I was really planning on emailing to you! That is just my thoughts on it....and you can do it from settings...permissions...and at the bottom....I think!!!

  3. I guess you can never be too cautious. I have decided that I am not going to stress about it at this point. It may be something I should look into at some point. There is an option under the settings part of your blog's dashboard to make it private. Then you have to add the people you want to have access to the page. My question with that is would they have to have a Google account because so many of my family members check my blog, but can't comment because they haven't opened a Google account.

  4. Cathy the google account is free as long as they have an email address, and a password.(Any email address will work) that is all they need to be able to leave a comment.
I think the more I have looked into it, that anyone can be invited to the blog as well, as long as they have an email address. I could be wrong though. For now I am going to leave mine the way it is too. I may decide later on, that I would like to go private though.

  5. yeah - i've been debating too. a friend of mine had triplets and they were getting like 1000 visits daily as they posted entries about their struggles with the babies being born at 24 weeks... and then one day they found out that someone stole their pictures and started their own fake blog with our friends' babies. weird! i guess i'm not too worried, but some people are.

  6. Okay, now that story that Melissa just told is creepy! Here is my two cents worth: like everyone has said, you can never be too careful. If you feel concerned, then go private. It's easy to do and one extra step for others to log in really isn't a big deal. I guess just consider who you plan to have read your blog. If you want to keep it just at those whom you already know, then go private. On the other hand, blogging has also become a way for people to get to know new people through friends. Many people I know blog with others they've never even met. In that case, you are usually blogging as if you were at Girls Night Out or something: your "conversations" are girl talk/support. But you might be better to do a private blog if you plan to post more personal info/pics. On the OTHER hand (I have many hands - I am a mom, you know!):o) if you don't give out last names, cities, street address, etc, etc, I still feel like you're pretty safe - so far. I haven't decided myself yet. I like letting others read my blog, but I do hold back some things I sometimes wish I could post, for safety reasons. So far, I'm staying "exposed," but I reserve the right to change my mind. :o) Anyway - as long as I'm on your list, I don't care which you choose! :o)
